GenevaWith its setting on beautiful Seneca Lake in the heart of central New York, the City of Geneva offers residents and visitors alike the opportunity to walk, bike, or simply sit to enjoy lake views that truly inspire.You'll observe a downtown dedicated to its past with amenities for the present. Take the time to sit in a rare and historic "atmospheric opera house" for a unique experience, whether an off-Broadway show, a concert, or a current movie on one of the largest screens you'll find anywhere. Visit the splendid shops for fresh flowers, unusual gifts, antiques, and local memorabilia. Enjoy a unique eating experience in a comfortable restaurant, or outdoors at any of several sidewalk cafes. The City of Geneva is also central to the exciting Finger Lakes wine country, rivaling California for quality and award-winning wines. Hobart and William Smith Colleges occupies a 170-acre campus that contains 46 student residences, 48 classroom and administrative buildings, a library, two dining halls, a cafe, two gymnasia, a sport and recreation center, numerous athletics fields, several computer labs, a studio arts center, an intercultural center, a chapel, a career center, infirmary, theatre, student activities center, pub, post office, bookstore, radio station, boathouse and dock and guest house. A 108-acre biological field station is also maintained by the Colleges. The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting Geneva as a tourist destination. The Chamber's lakefront office on Routes 5 & 20 serves as a welcome center to Geneva. It is open seven days a week from mid-May to mid-October. Chamber staff will answer any questions visitors have about the area, provide maps and brochures, and help visitors find accommodations. Telephone inquiries are welcome. The Chamber also operates a kiosk near Exit 42 of the New York State Thruway. |
