Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) antidepressant. The way this medicine works is still not fully understood. It is thought to positively affect communication between nerve cells in the central nervous system and/or restore chemical balance in the brain.
Fluoxetine is used to treat major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder) obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Fluoxetine is sometimes used together with another medication called olanzapine (Zyprexa). to treat depression caused by bipolar disorder (manic depression). This combination is also used to treat depression after at least 2 other medications have been tried without successful treatment of symptoms.
Questran helps reduce cholesterol (fatty acids) in the blood. High cholesterol is associated with an increased risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis (clogged arteries). Questran is used to lower high levels of cholesterol in the blood, especially low-density lipoprotein (LDL) ("bad" cholesterol). Questran powder is also used to treat itching caused by a blockage in the bile ducts of the gallbladder.
Generic Xifaxan is an antibiotic that fights bacterial infection only in the intestines.
Generic Xifaxan is used to treat travelers' diarrhea caused by E. coli in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Most people get this infection by eating food or drinking fluids that have been contaminated with the bacteria.
Generic Xifaxan is also used to lower the risk of worsened brain function, or hepatic encephalopathy, in adults with liver failure. Brain function can be affected when the liver stops working and cannot remove toxic substances from the body.
